The Master of Science in Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary program providing broad and deep technical study of the ever-changing landscape of cyber security. Designed for students with a background in computer science, computer engineering, or information technology, the program aims to develop the skills needed for employment in the information technology industry or for further graduate study. Core courses offer three complementary perspectives: (1) a practical, hands-on study of current “best practices” in cybersecurity, along with their limitations; (2) a study of the principles of the growing science of cybersecurity; and (3) a study of the broader human context of cyber security, including social, economic, and policy aspects. Elective courses provide the opportunity for specialization in one or more areas of interest.
The following are in addition to the University’s graduate admissions requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a similar field, with a GPA of 3.0, from a regionally accredited institution.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Approval of the Graduate Committee.
- Foreign students whose native language is not English must score at least 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or 80 on the iBT.
A student’s GPA and required test scores will be considered as minimum requirements for admission. The academic background of each student shall be analyzed to determine if there is a need for remedial courses in addition to the required curriculum. Students are also required to comply with all course prerequisites.
Students in the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program are required to complete 30 credits of graduate level courses. Included in the program are 15 credits of Cybersecurity core courses and 15 credits of Cybersecurity elective courses.
Core Courses (15 Credits)
Students must complete these five courses with an average grade of `B` or better, with at most one grade that is lower than `B-`.

Three credits can be earned in either CIS 5900 or CIS 5910, but not both. With the approval of the Graduate Program Director, up to two courses not appearing on this list can be substituted as electives, including courses from the University of South Florida’s online MS Cybersecurity program.
